World without brands

 January 30, 2016     No comments

1. Background
...A world without brands... It existed once, and still exists, more or less, in the worlds poorest places. No raucous advertising, no ugly billboards, no McDonalds. Yet, given a chance and a bit of money, people flee this Eden. They seek out Budweiser instead of their local tipple... What should we conclude? That people are pawns in the hands of giant companies with huge advertising budgets and global reach? Or that brands bring something that people think is better than what they had before?
(The Economist, 2001a: 11)
2. Question
Critically discuss the statement. Think about some inherited presuppositions which link to the binary between so called east and west, i.e. developing and developed world which is inherited from the past. Think about the notion that most of the popular brands originate in the developed world, but through their marketing strategies, and inherited presuppositions, these are considered more valuable then the local ones. What is the role of international marketing in this process? How does it affect bottom of the pyramid market?
You can do complete theoretical piece and illustrate your argument with the examples, or you can use a case study of a company.
3. Structure
Introduction and Background information of the company if you are using a case study of the particular company
Development of the argument through the theoretical conceptualisation
Concluding remarks

Research Paper, Psychology: Knowledge and Scientific Methods

 January 30, 2016     No comments

1) Name and describe (in your own words) the Six Principles of Scientific Thinking (Lilienfeld, Chapter 1), and state why you believe it is important to use them when thinking about behavior.
2) Find two examples of claims made in newspapers, magazines, television, or the Internet relevant to Psychology that you think should be evaluated using one of the 6 principles of scientific thinking. Briefly describe both of the claims, and state the media source where you found each claim. (Note: you must suggest a different principle of scientific thinking that would be useful to evaluate each of the two claims.) Each of these 2 sources must be cited both in the text of your paper and in the reference section (bibliography) using APA format.
3) For both of these claims, state and describe the principle that you think should be applied, and discuss how the principle is used (or not used) in the claim.
4) Examples of issues relevant to Psychology that have been discussed in various media lately include; standardized testing in education, law enforcement policies (training programs for officers, technology used to modify peoples behavior such as automated speed monitors etc), gun control issues, the use of social media by extremist groups to recruit people to their causes. These are examples that you may use, or you may choose an issue of interest to you.

LAW of WORLD TRADE ORGANIZATION

 January 30, 2016     No comments

About two thirds of the 159 members of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) are developing countries. They play an increasingly important and active role in the WTO because of their numbers, because they are becoming more important in the global economy, and because they increasingly look to trade as a vital tool in their development efforts. Developing countries are a highly diverse group often with very different views and concerns.
In view of the above:
Why are there special provisions in WTO agreements for developing countries?
Do these provisions provide a solution to the issue of the effective participation of developing countries in WTO decision-making?
Is it necessary to develop an understanding of the different techniques and tools used in the agreements to differentiate the obligations of or towards developing countries?

Write an extended definition of global justice,

 January 30, 2016     No comments

Write an extended definition of global justice, using your own words and analysis. Address specific issues/cases/stories explored in the global justice unit; feel free to conduct your own research to bring in other relevant examples, as well. As you explore, identify and explain what standards, fairness, rights and responsibilities mean with respect to global justice. Finally, discuss the importance of understanding global justice and demonstrate why the concepts matter.
Because you are writing to an academic audience, follow the conventions of academic writing. Your purpose is not only to demonstrate your engagement with course materials and concepts, but also to contribute to larger academic and civic conversations about global justice. In order to build credibility and convince your audience that your ideas have merit, use ample evidence and concrete examples to develop and support your ideas. While you should put your own ideas in the context of what others have said about global justice, you should also arrive at significant and original conclusions of your own.

Human Rights - Disability - Duty to Accomodate

 January 30, 2016     No comments

Datt had worked for McAdams restaurant for 23 years (taking orders, cleaning) when in 2007 she came down with a skin condition on her hands that was made worse by frequent hand washing. She took several short-term disability leaves but her condition always worsened after she returned to work. McAdams said that frequent hand washing was necessary to maintain acceptable sanitary conditions, to meet both government regulations and its own hygiene policies. For example, the restaurant has a times system where a timer sounds each hour, and all crew members and the manager must wash their hands. Datt's doctor reported that she could not perform any job requiring frequent hand washing but there were duties she could perform, including cash, some food preparation, and some cleaning. However, in August 2009 the benefits provider told Datt she would not be able to return to work because "restaurant work was not good for her" and offered her a three-month job search program. In November 2009, McAdams terminated her employment. Datt filed a human rights application to the Ontario Human Rights Commission/Tribunal pursuant to Ontario law.
Please address the following issues in reviewing the merits of the human rights application:
Questions:
1.Did Datt have a disability? How is a "disability" defined pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code?
2.Was this a case of discrimination? Why or why not?
3.Did the employer have a duty to accommodate Datt and if so, did it fulfill that duty up to the point of undue hardship? Explain your answer.
4.If you were a member of the Tribunal, how would you decide this particular case?

The Theory of Change Project should be a synthesis of the intern's experiential & subjective learning via coursework, counseling experiences, and personal development as a counselor trainee. The final Project should reflect the intern's thoughtful consideration of research evidence and theoretical formulations related to the change process. The Project should clearly address the 5 areas indicated below and demonstrate the inter-relatedness of these areas. They are:
COUNSELOR - role/function of the counselor in facilitating change; person of the counselor as it relates to the therapeutic process; counselor variables that contribute to and work against client change.
CLIENT- your view of human nature, how clients construct reality; the nature of the client/counselor relationship in facilitating change; client variables that contribute to and work against change, client variables that contribute to and work for change.
THEORY- your theoretical basis for facilitating change in clients. Interns are expected to adopt an integrated theoretical formulation that reflects diverse theoretical constructs blended coherently. Include appropriate references.
INTERVENTION- the role and function of diagnosis/assessment, goal-setting, treatment planning and technique selection in facilitating client change.
CONTEXT- explain how counseling is influenced by and influences the context in which it takes place. Context here means the setting (e.g. school, agency, hospital setting) multicultural considerations (e.g. disability, gender, race and ethnicity, age), and the nature of the client-counselor contract (e.g. short-term, long-term treatment).

Experiential Learning Activity

 January 30, 2016     No comments

Congratulations you are the proud parent of a newborn baby! Youre thrilled and at home now, so it is just you and your partner/spouse to care for your baby. One aspect that many new parents dont realize will be difficult to adjust to is the change in your sleeping patterns and lack of sleep that comes with being the parent of an infant. Newborns wake frequently during the night to eat since their tummies are tiny, and for diaper changes. They also sometimes wake up for other reasons, perhaps just because they are lonely and need to be held. Later in infancy some parents might decide to not attend to crying immediately, but all experts agree that newborns require feeding every few hours for optimal growth. For this discussion board you are going to participate in an experiential learning activity. You will be experiencing what typical nighttime waking would be like as a new parent. For this activity you will not be able to delegate the night-time duties to another person, you alone will be responsible for them.
*To earn credit for this, you must do this experiential learning activity between now and Monday Feb 23 night to be prepared for our Tuesday Feb 24 in-class discussion...You cannot substitute times when you had difficulty sleeping or discuss memories of weeks/months/years ago when your child was younger. Email me if you have a question about this.
-Set an alarm to wake up at least 3 times during your usual sleep schedule, approximately 3 hours apart, (Newborns typically need to eat every 2 to 4 hours so we are taking the average.) A typical waking schedule might be 11pm, 1am, 4am, 7am, and 10am (if youd still be asleep at 10am). To get the real experience, you should plan to stay up the rest of the day rather than allowing yourself to go back to bed after you finish this.
-Consider downloading a free ringtone for your smart phone of a baby crying to use as your alarm to help increase the reality of the experience and/or looking at a picture of a baby (your own or one you find online) while you are awake.
-Get out of bed and stay up for at least 15 minutes each time the alarm goes off. In reality, parents would often be awake for longer periods with only rare occasions being shorter than this. You are welcome to select any activity you'd like to do during this 15 minutes.
Questions to answer
The next day, answer all of the following questions. You'll turn in your typed, printed responses to these questions.
1. What was your experience during the night while waking up? Be specific. Was the experience the same or different each time you awoke?
2. What was your experience the next day? Did you notice any physical effects (e.g., tiredness) or emotional effects (e.g., moodiness) the next day?
3. How do you think this would affect you if you had to do this night after night for months?
4. Would this make you more likely to want to share nighttime duties with a partner? Do you think your partner would be willing to share this duty?

Health Education increases overall life quality

 January 30, 2016     No comments

This assignment requires student to review the literature on the specific problem/issue area you will be tackling in your project management plan. For example, if you are preparing a project management plan that involves mitigating the effects of climate change on a small island state, then your literature review should engage with the scholarship on the effect of climate change on small island states and the varying options for intervention.
The literature review should NOT be a simply a descriptive list of researches. It should engage critically and analytically with the scholarship, meaning it could identify themes, different interpretative frameworks, policy recommendations, competing conclusions and possible explanations for the variance (i.e. was it a sampling issue, different methodologies, etc). You could also discuss which of the findings was more persuasive, backing your claims with evidence.
The review should be in narrative form and include a thesis statement in your introductory paragraph, laying out the main argument that you wish to present in the body of your text, followed by a conclusion. It also should include sub-headings that serve both as organizational cues for the writer, and as a roadmap for readers. For example, i.e. environmentalism as a collective action problem, environmentalism as a problem of capitalism, and so on.

Learning concepts This assignment should be between 3-5 pages in total.

 January 30, 2016     No comments

Learning concepts
This assignment should be between 3-5 pages in total. You should have an introductory and a concluding paragraph. Use APA style in the text and in the reference section (bibliography) to cite your 3 sources (the textbook and two additional sources). Use 12pt Times New Roman font, double-spaced, 1 inch margins. Each General Psychology instructor determines their own specific grading policies, consult with your instructor if you have grading questions. Papers shorter than 3 pages or longer than 5 may result in loss of points. This paper is not a full research report, so you do not need an abstract, cover-page, Materials and Methods section, results or discussion sections.
Here is a link to a guide for APA style when citing references from various types of sources:
http://www.ucdenver.edu/academics/colleges/CLAS/Centers/writing/resources/Documents/Resources/APA%20Citation.pdf
Specific instructions
1) Describe and contrast (in your own words, not the textbooks) classical and operant conditioning.
2) Classical Conditioning: Discuss and explain how classical conditioning is already found in both of the topics (claims) you wrote about in writing assignment 1 earlier this semester. Briefly (one to two paragraphs) describe how you could apply classical conditioning to alter behavior in each of the topics. Briefly outline a hypothetical study you could perform to measure the effect of your classical conditioning manipulation (two to three paragraphs for each claim). State how your study would use one of the scientific principles.
3) Operant Conditioning: Discuss and explain how operant conditioning is already found in both of the topics (claims) you wrote about in writing assignment 1 earlier this semester. Briefly (one to two paragraphs) describe how you could apply operant conditioning to alter behavior in each of the topics. Briefly outline a hypothetical study you could perform to measure the effect of your operant conditioning manipulation (two to three paragraphs for each claim). State how your study would use one of the scientific principles.
4) For both of the claims, you must cite your source. The sources must be cited both in the text of your paper and in the reference section (bibliography) using APA format.
5) Briefly sum up the importance of classical and operant conditioning principles in everyday life. In other words, how does an understanding of these principles affect everyday life?

Personality Theory - Harry Sullivan Theory

 January 30, 2016     No comments

Harry Sullivan's Personality Theory as it could relate to someone's personality. Feel free to use example's of real life personality type of someone who is extroverted and very social.
Instructions:
For this assignment you will write a paper 4 to 5 pages in length, not including its required cover and Reference pages, describing a single personality theory from the course textbook that best explains your own personality and life choices. You are free to select from among the several theories covered in the course to date but only one theory can be used.
Your task is to demonstrate your knowledge of the theory you choose via descriptions in your own words of its key concepts and to use of them to explain how you developed your own personality. It is recommended that you revisit the material covered to date to refresh your knowledge of theory details. This is a midterm assignment and you should show in your work that you have studied and comprehend the first four weeks of course material. Quoting must be kept to a minimum of a brief sentence or two per paper page. If found in greater amounts it will result in point deduction.
I. Theory Description
A brief description of the premise and key components of the theory you selected. You should be thorough but concise in this section and not spend the bulk of the paper detailing the theory, and rather provide enough of a summary of the key points that an intelligent but uniformed reader would be able to understand its basics. If you pick a more
complicated theory you should expect explaining its premise and key components to take longer than explaining the same for one of the simpler theories, but in either case, focus on the basics and keep in mind that a paper that is almost all theory description and little use of the theory to explain your own personality will receive a significant point deduction as will the reverse case of the paper being largely personal experience sharing with little linkage to clearly described key theory components.
II. My Personality
A description of how your chosen theory explains your personality and life choices.
III. Theory Limitations
A description of the limitations of the theory in explaining your personality or anyone elses. This section needs to identify limitations such as a theory applying to some aspects personality but not all, theory only applying to adult developmental, a theory focusing on nurture but not nature or vice versa, etc., not whether or not you agree with the theory.

Has America become a culture of entitlement

 January 30, 2016     No comments

Has America become a culture of entitlement, where people expect society--parents, teachers, governmentto provide for them regardless of their own efforts?
Mary Arguelles, "Money for Morality"
Bill McKibben, "A Modest Proposal to Destroy Western Civilization as We Know It: The $100 Christmas"
Using source material from BOTH of the essays above, write an essay of 500-750 words responding to the following essay question. You may use brief quotations, a paraphrase, or a brief summary as supporting examples from the essays. You must cite your sources following MLA format, using quotations when quoting exact words and using MLA style internal citations for all material used from the source articles. You must also create an MLA formatted Works Cited list at the end of the essay for the sources from the textbook which you use in your essay following the format for citing more than one article from the textbook.
Your essay may not include any source material except the articles specifically identified above in Writing on the River. All source material must be properly documented in MLA format including internal citations (tags) and Works Cited entries.
You may use your textbooks as you write. You may not have any other assistance while you write.

Integrate physiological and psychological aspects of perceptual functioning.

 January 30, 2016     No comments

How is language perceived in the brain, and specifically, how does Broca's aphasia impact mental illness.
Integrate physiological and psychological aspects of perceptual functioning. An example would be "the role of expectation upon the sensory experience of olfaction."
Note: A very important aspect of this paper is that it must cover more than what is already covered in the course -- textbook information summary and course review isn't the goal -- but rather it must expand on a topic related to the course. The topic can also not be too broad. An example of an appropriate topic might be a particular disorder of the olfactory system. A too broad topic would be "Perception and the Sense of Smell". The latter is too general because it is one of the human sensory systems and something the course already covers. It is also much too broad because it covers an entire sensory system.
Finally, an exceedingly important aspect of this assignment and the others in the course is the rule prohibiting ANY type of copying. The certainly includes copying word-for-word, or with just a few words changed or rearranged, published material of any kind, and you also may not even quote for any assignment in the course. Concern the latter, your prof needs to see what you understand of what you have read rather than what you can copy and place inside quotation marks. You must paraphrase (summarize in your own words) published materials and properly source credit published materials both in the post or paper body and in a list attached to the end per APA formatting rules. A first instance of ANY copying and/or failure to source credit, regardless of intent to do so or not, will result in an assignment score of zero with no option for revision and any additional instances will result in course failure.

Public health proposal: obesity awareness and ways to eilievate the issue

 January 30, 2016     No comments

Your task is to plan part of a health promotion website for the general public in response to an identified health need (relevant to your field).
This will include content for three web pages:
1. Information about the health problem. This should indicate why it is a public health issue, ie scope of problem and impact on population. Must indicate target audience for instance men or women.
2. Plan for behaviour / lifestyle change to help to alleviate the issue. This should link with at least one model / approach to health promotion or behaviour change.
3. A useful links page identifying relevant policy, practice and research links for the public.
imagine that you are writing a proposal to your line manager/clinical lead that will persuade them that the development of a website on your health promotion topic, will be a beneficial public health initiative. You are, therefore, identifying potential material for the future design of 3 web pages on your health promotion topic that you think your target audience needs to know, and preparing background supporting material that both justifies your choice of information for the target audience and provides evidence to your manager/clinical lead about a) why such a website is needed, and b) why you have designed the 3 web pages the way you have.

write an essay that shows your understanding of the use of kairos

 January 30, 2016     No comments

write an essay that shows your understanding of the use of kairos. You should use Reading 3.1 (I Have a Dream) in Praxis as an opportunity to demonstrate this understanding. For your paper, you will need to show how kairos is used and how it works in the speech. Specifically, this means that you should show how Dr. King builds on his interpretation of the moment and the opportunities it presents (kairos) in order to write a persuasive speech. In your essay, draw on several passages which have to do with kairos. Quote the relevant passages, or parts of them, and discuss them. Explain what they mean and why they are important. Once you have discussed the kairotic imagery and passages, explain how they are used in the speech. That is, once Dr. King has told us to view the present in a certain light, he goes on to say that action needs to be taken in order to address the pressing difficulties of the time. Dont forget to include an exploration of this connection between kairos and purpose in your essay.

The uses of history: We saw two high-stakes episodes in which ancient sources

 January 30, 2016     No comments

The uses of history: We saw two high-stakes episodes in which ancient sources were either falsified (the Donation of Constantine) or contradicted each other so that the facts are lost to us now (the Norman Conquest). Describe and explore the similarities and the contrasts between these two cases, quoting any primary sources assigned for class. How truthful can we assume primary sources to be? Can you identify a more recent parallel (from the last 200 years) for one or both of the episodes?

2. Connect the thirteenth-century humanization of religious figuresChrist, the Virgin Mary, Saint Francisto the rise of verisimilitude / mimesis in the visual arts. , and ONE image close to it in time and place, and explore the ways in which they try to make their subject lifelike, present, and contemporary to the audience of the time.

3. Its clear that medieval and Renaissance Christians were interested in their individual salvation: we can see that in the representations of the Last Judgment (week 5), as well as in the prayers and praise-songs to Christ, Mary, and the saints  . At the same time, though, religiosity and the Church were also often either ignored, as in Bisclavret   and Silence  , or mocked, as often in the Decameron . Write a paper focusing on the Decameron: choose one or more tales and examine how it treats (or they treat) the question of salvation, holiness, and virtuous living.

4. The Decameron is famous for a more closely mimetic (realistic) treatment of human lifeits more interested in exploring how we do live, than how we should live. Choose one of the following four themes: the search for identity; the search for love; the search for the divine; the search for power. Identify one or two Decameron tales that in your opinion exemplify that theme, and show how they use representations of everyday life to do it.

Value Creation Sellers create value for buyers

 January 30, 2016     No comments

Value Creation
Sellers create value for buyers in the form of providing leading edge technology, state of the art products, timely services, ease of buying, and quality of relationships, services, and products. These values are usually related to company finances (but not for all criteria, as compliance, safety, and other factors can be considered). Sellers will create value for you as the buyer, given the RFP you have selected, and then in turn you will create value for your buyer (client).
Taking into considerations the RFP you have selected to work with during this course, answer the following two questions in detail. Submit this assignment as one comprehensive MS Word document of no less than 200 words.
1. What are the most important value add criteria your sellers can provide you in order to make your project a success? 2. In turn, what value will you provide to your clients? Why should your clients select you as their future vendor?

An analytical reader response paper. Follow any acceptable form

 January 30, 2016     No comments

An analytical reader response paper. Follow any acceptable form (MLA, APA, etc.) 3 or 4 pages long (or more). Select any poem you like; I suggest a fairly short piece. (The Raven is WONDERFUL to analyze, but is long and involved; use such a poem if you wish). When you select a poem, consider the following suggestions.
a. In the opening paragraph, consider the title and what it might mean; what general type of poem it is (lyric, narrative, or dramatic); mention anything you know about the authors life that might give a hint at the message; describe the first lines of the poem in terms of the possible meaning of any symbols or figures of speech they contain (you should look for and explain symbols and figures of speech throughout the poem); discuss what is being described (the setting; is there any symbolic meaning in it); what characters are used (stock characters, types, or archetypes) or what you see as the authors persona or narrative voice. You dont have to use this order, and there are other questions you might ask (see the material included below), but the main idea is to figure out the setting and nature of the poets angle of vision.
b. In the next paragraphs, (the body of the essay), work through the poem stanza by stanza explaining anything symbolic (including figures of speech), the relationship of symbols to each other and to any message being developed; what actions or ideas are being described and how they contribute to building the general message of the poem (which you will clarify in the last paragraph or two of your paper), and comment on the use of words, the rhythm and rhyme (particularly if they relate clearly to the ideas being expressed), and any other elements of technique or word use you find important. Go through the entire poem in this manner.
c. In the closing section of your essay, comment on the overall tone, message, and meaning of the work; what did the writer want the reader to know? Remember: you are making an argument here (This poem MEANS X), so be sure to anchor your interpretation in the poem itself; the authors words and symbols are the evidence for your argument, and if they are ambiguous, you should acknowledge that yours is one possible interpretation and that others may also be legitimate. (NB: remember EN105/106: when you close, try to write a graceful and interesting last line; dont just stop writing; and be sure to give your finished product a good title and first line as well.)

An essay about the right of habeas corpus in the context of the war on terror.

 January 30, 2016     No comments

Soon after the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan in 2001, the Bush administration developed a plan for holding and interrogating captured prisoners. They were sent to a prison inside a U.S. naval base at Guantanamo Bay, on land leased from the government of Cuba. Since 2002, over 700 men have been detained at Gitmo. Most have been released without charges or turned over to other governments. In 2011, Congress specifically prohibited the expenditure of funds to transfer Gitmo prisoners to detention facilities in the continental United States, making it virtually impossible to try them in civilian courts. As of April 2012, 169 remained in detention at Gitmo (Sutton, 2012).
An assumption made by the Bush administration in selecting this location was that it was beyond the jurisdiction of U.S. courts. The administration wanted to avoid any judicial oversight of how it handled detainees, characterized as enemy combatants. A possible legal challenge to indefinite detention with no formal charges or judicial proceedings might arise from the habeas corpus provision of the Constitution.
Article I, Section 9 of the Constitution states, "The Privilege of the Writ of Habeas Corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in Cases of Rebellion or Invasion the public Safety may require it." Under this provision, persons detained by the government are entitled to a judicial hearing to determine if there is any legal basis for their detention. Some legal commentators refer to the right of habeas corpus as the "great writ of liberty" because it is a prisoner's ultimate recourse to an impartial judge who can review the possibility that he is being held illegally by the executive (e.g., the police or the military). In nations that do not honor habeas corpus, people simply disappear into prisons without ever having their day in court.
Several controversial Supreme Court cases have come out of Gitmo. One fundamental question that has been debated, but not clearly resolved, is to what extent the war on terror justifies the President's indefinite detention of enemy combatants without the possibility of the minimal judicial review protected by habeas corpus? Another issue in the debate is to what extent Congress must clearly authorize the President to conduct extra-judicial detentions in order for them to be legal? In 2008, the Supreme Courts decision in Boumediene v. Bush offered some answers to these questions. However, the deeply divided 5-4 Court and the likelihood of the protracted nature of the war on terror suggest that debate around these important questions will continue. Writing the Final Paper in this course will prepare you to participate intelligently as a citizen in this ongoing debate.
1.Explain the historical evolution of habeas corpus, including its English and American traditions. The explanation of its evolution within the American tradition should include the general meaning of the right of habeas corpus in the U.S. Constitution and its relationship to the protection of other civil liberties.
2.Provide examples from U.S. history of the suspension of habeas corpus and their applicability to the present.
3.Analyze the relevance of habeas corpus to the contemporary U.S. situation during the war on terror, especially with respect to persons characterized by as enemy combatants or illegal combatants.
4.Explain the U.S. Supreme Court's interpretation of the right of habeas corpus with respect to enemy combatants or illegal combatants (i.e., the views of the five justices making up the majority in Boumediene v. Bush as well as the views of the four dissenting justices).
5.Evaluate a minimum of four perspectives on this topic expressed by justices of the Supreme Court, leaders in other branches of government, and commentators in both the academic and popular media. Your evaluation should consider perspectives on the following topics as they relate to habeas corpus:
a.The role of the President as Commander-in-Chief.
b.The role of Congress in determining when habeas corpus can be suspended.
c.The role of the Supreme Court in protecting civil liberties, including the judicial philosophy which should guide the Court in this role, and
d.In your evaluation, you should also include your personal philosophy, values, or ideology about the balance between civil liberties and national security in the context of an unending war on terror.

RESEARCH CRITIQUE PAPER

 January 30, 2016     No comments

Compare and contrast the articles WITHIN each type of method in relation to and consideration of:
1. The nature and assumptions of the questions asked by the researcher. (Did they ask good questions and how?)
2. A detailed examination of the processes of data collection for each article. (Did the authordescribe the details of data collection methods eg. number of interviews, the kinds of questions, the hours of observation, the way in which films were chosen their sampling, procedures etc.)? Have you learned anything about the data collection method from this
article?
3. A critique of the data collection section in relation to what the researcher hoped to further understand. (Did the data collection plan relate well to the questions and interpretations? How? What other method(s) could be useful? Why?
4. An analysis of these FOUR articles for their research methods. Base on what we have learned in class and what you read in course textbook chapters on qualitative and quantitative data collection methods, analyze how these articles may inform (or not) you on the research design and method of your chosen topic. What did they have in common that was useful? How did they differ? What did you learn?

discuss and assess the implications of Welbys view with specific reference to commodities futures markets.
Some years before being appointed to the position, the current Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby in a paper titled The Ethics of Derivatives and Risk Management (Ethical Perspectives 4(1997)2: 84-93, makes the following statement:
The widespread and elaborate use of new financial instruments among corporate entities and financial institutions requires justification. It faces the charge of increasing both the level and complexity of risk in the financial system under the pretext of reducing it. (p.91)
Referring to both the academic literature and any relevant case studies on the topic, discuss and assess the implications of Welbys view with specific reference to commodities futures markets.

Effective international managers were said to be those who were adaptable, flexible, open-minded, speaking in foreign languages, and making friends with those of many nationalities. (Smith, 1992:46)
Critically discuss the validity of this statement and the extent to which being adaptable, flexible, open-minded, speaking in foreign languages, and making friends with those of many nationalities are relevant and sufficient qualities, capabilities and conditions for international managers being effective in the context of managing culturally diverse project teams. Draw on specific illustrative examples from case studies and/or organisations with which you are familiar.

Experiential Learning Opportunity ELO Reflection

 January 30, 2016     No comments

Drag racing is a motorsport that everyone can participate in with relative ease. Grassroots racing developed out of a desire for competition among young adults. By partnering with the local drag strip, students will be able to experience drag racing for themselves.
Crossroads Dragway www.crossroadsdragway.com has agreed to allow students a complimentary opportunity on one of the Friday Night Fun Nights to experience drag racing from the drivers seat or from a spectators point of view.
Crossroads Dragway will coordinate a tour for students of this course (attending the tour is not required)
Students may elect to participate in the Friday Night Fun Night by racing their own street vehicle.
Students may opt to be a spectator in lieu of actually racing.
Under no circumstance will the grade earned in this experiential learning opportunity be impacted by on-track performance.
In fulfillment of this assignment students will write a reflection of the experience connecting the How to Drag Race text, the tour, and the experience to reflect their learning of motorsports.
If you are having trouble getting started with writing a reflection you may consider weaving your answers to the following into the reflection;
does motorsports of any kind interest you
what kind of motorsports do you find most appealing and why
how does drag racing compare to other forms of racing you are familiar with
do you consider yourself a motorsports participant or spectator and why
regarding your experience at the track on a Friday Fun Night, what was your most and least favorite
with over 60,000 people in Vigo County and considering all the other activities people are involved in, is there a way to increase the crowd at the dragstrip?
