You have made it to the final part of the Social Justice Project

You have made it to the final part of the Social Justice Project. In this part of the project, you will be presenting a plan to politically advocate on behalf of the population that is plagued with the healthcare problem that you identified in the first part of this project. You will be taking this opportunity to propose the evidence-based solutions that you identified in part two of the project. Of the many possible ways to advocate, you will choose strategies that you feel are most appropriate and will be most effective. This is the most exciting part - very similar to developing a plan of care once you have assessed your patient and decided upon which evidence-based interventions to deliver! Completion of this assignment demonstrates achievement of the following course outcome:
Evaluate the political advocacy process to identify opportunities for nursing professional involvement.
Delineate strategies that nurses can use to engage in advocacy for healthcare policy to support equity, access, affordability, and social justice for consumers and in support of the nursing profession.
Assignment Guidelines
Develop a PowerPoint presentation with speakers notes that includes the following:
1.Summary of the problem
i. The identified consumer challenge and its relationship to equity, access, quality, and/or social justice in healthcare.
ii. The population who is affected most by this problem, noting whether this is a vulnerable population.
iii. Healthcare and health disparities that may be related to this problem and population.
iv. Summary of any legislation and/or political activities in relation to the identified problem.
v. Analysis of impact of legislation on this issue.
1.Summary of the evidence-based interventions
i. List of evidence-based solutions with in-text citations of the supporting sources.
ii. Summary of political advocacy strategies that could be used to advocate for use of the identified evidence-based solutions.
1.Plan for political advocacy
i. Identify the audience to whom you plan to communicate about this challenge with. Will you speak out to the workplace or workforce, the legislative representatives, professional organizations, the community, or even a combination of these entities? Describe rationale for choosing this audience.
ii. Identify and describe strategies that you will use to communicate your proposal for interventions to address the problem. Of the several actions that you might consider, some examples might include writing letters, using the media, or building coalitions. This is where you get to be creative!
iii. Describe what you have learned through the completion of this Social Justice Project and how you can apply this learning in your future work.
