The objective of this essay is for you to write about an anthropological topic/issue that has significance to your academic discipline or personal research interests. Your essay should demonstrate your ability to adequately conduct scholarly research, comprehend the content of the literature, and understand the significance and broader implications of your respective topic/issue. This essay is worth 15% of your total grade.
Essay Requirements
Content: Your research topic must be preapproved by the instructor or teaching assistant. Your topic and the content of your essay must be anthropological. That is to say, it should be related to one of the four subfields of anthropology, analytical, and comparative and/or holistic. Your essay should not just include a discussion of what the authors who you are referencing say, but also the various lines evidence that they used to come up with their assertions (material culture, surveys, interviews, ethnographies, lab or field experiments, etc.).
Format: Your paper must be double spaced with 12 point font and 1″ margins.
Length: Your essay should be a minimum of three full pages and a maximum of six.
Citations: You are required to use at least five credible sources (e.g., peer-reviewed journals, books, university websites, etc.) to complete your essay. Three of these sources must come from peer-reviewed journals. Your sources should be relatively recent (1995-present) unless the source is strongly influential and seminal to your topic. For the purposes of this essay, do not use direct quotations.
You must properly cite your sources using the AAA or Chicago style guides.
