This weeks' chapter 5 focuses on the growth of the colonial population. During the 1600's, the primary immigrant group came from England. However, by the 1700's, a diverse group of immigrants from Western Europe, and forced immigrant slaves from Africa contributed to the population growth. This expansion led to the development of a global economy, which relied heavily on the resources of the New World, and the exploitation of human beings from Africa.
