Writing Project #1 Communication Analysis (15% due week 2)
This assignment should lay the groundwork for your final researched report. Consider your decision maker for that report.
Instructions
Part 1: During the first two weeks of this course, collect examples of barriers (inhibitors) to written and verbal communication occurring in your organization. The communications you collect can be from documents, conversations, or meetings.
Types of communication barriers and examples can be found in these links, the Course Modules, and your Bovee and Thill text. Please take the time to read through some of these.

personal censors and filters
noise (real and semantic)
audience expectations
communication structure (or lack of)
direction of communication

Part 2: After you've collected at least 5-10 communication samples, identify the inhibitors they represent and define the inhibitors in a bullet-list. The definition you provide should identify the general characteristics of the inhibitor and how it works to impede communication.
Part 3: Analyze the communication samples you have collected in a table with three columns:
1. Communication example either as a direct quote or paraphrase
2. Name of the inhibitor(s) at work in the sample
3. Justification of your selection of the inhibitor(s).
Part 4: Using a scale of 1 to 100, rank your organization's communication effectiveness. Justify and explain the score your award.
Details: Microsoft Word document or equivalent but no PDFs. Use styled headings, block paragraph format, bullet list and table; single-spaced. Model responses from previous students are provided in Course Content. Please follow the basic template closely: In business writing, you are often expected to follow templates in the type of writing that you do.
Criteria for grading: Communication Analysis
Assignment meets criteria presented, deadline, and style
Includes all relevant information in an accessible manner
Accommodates specific audience needs, including those of the decision maker
Appropriate uses of persuasive techniques
Creativity in depicting understanding of communication barriers
Clarity of descriptions
Demonstrates research into barriers in the organization
Tone and diction are positive, business-like
Words are precise, accurate, and appropriate for business
There are no errors.
