Genre: Academic. You may, however, choose to attack the topic using any three of the standard openings. Its really your choice. Just make it work for you.
Length: Shouldn't be less than five pages. WC page doesnt count as a page.
Objectives: Working on Form:
1) They Say / I Say: Practice ability to put several different voices in conversation and then joining that conversation.
2) Framing Quotes: Demonstrate that you can appropriately integrate primary and secondary textual evidence.
3) Transitions: Focus on transitioning between paragraphs and connecting every sentence. See that section in G&B.
4) Textual Analysis/Close Reading: Demonstrate skills analyzing a primary text by agreeing or disagreeing with secondary sources after having properly synthesized/summarized that source. You should also carefully analyze the textual evidence you supply in order to reveal and emphasize your main points.
5) Works Cited Page: Properly format your WC page. Serious errors will seriously reduce your grade.
6) Develop a strong, clear ambitious thesis.
7) More than two major errors per page will result in a non-passing grade.
8) Use the COCA to develop at least one example (Exhibit) to support a claim.
