Research Paper, Business: Business Law

 February 03, 2016     No comments

Research Paper, Business: Business Law
1.The research element of the paper should consist of a minimum of 5 sources, not including case law. When sources are internet sources, the citation must include the website url and the date accessed.
2.Sources are to be listed alphabetically in a bibliography appendix to the paper.
3.When quoting more than three consecutive lines from a research source, the text of the quote should be formatted so that it is single-spaced, and indented:
so that the quote looks like this, clearly identified and making whatever point is important enough to be quoted like this. so that the quote looks like this, clearly identified and making whatever point is important enough to be quoted like this. so that the quote looks like this, clearly identified and making whatever point is important enough to be quoted like this.
If the quote is fewer than three lines, then it simply becomes part of your text, formatted naturally: so that so that the quote looks like this, clearly identified and making whatever point is important to be quoted like this.
4.Ideally, the paper will consist of research and analytical elements, but this is not to limit papers which are research-focused, rather than analytical. (Eg. Papers comparing employment standards between provinces.)
5.You may write on any topic/subject covered by the course materials during the term. This includes studying/writing ahead and knowing more about a subject than your instructor by the time we get there. There are no bonus points for embarrassing your instructor.
6.Suggested topics include:
a.Advantages and disadvantages of being employee vs. contractor, from perspective of individual and employer;
b.Terminating the employment relationship when there is just cause and when there is not. What is just cause?
c.The duty to accommodate: create a scenario, and consider the issues that would arise in that situation. Consider the impact of human rights legislation on employment;
d.Privacy before, during and at the end of en employment relationship. Social media and off-duty behaviour;
e.Impact of human rights legislation on each aspect of the employment relationship;
f.Design/develop a model employment contract for your business. Along with identifying the specific terms in the contract, include a paper describing elements of the employment contract which are implicitly in the contract, but not mentioned.
