ASSIGNMENT In Unit 6, you will learn about perimeter
ASSIGNMENT In Unit 6, you will learn about perimeter and area. These concepts apply in a wide variety of real life situations such as purchasing flooring when remodeling your kitchen, building a fence around your back yard, or finding the best value when purchasing pizza. On this week’s Discussion Board, you will investigate the perimeter and area of common shapes and see how it can apply in real life situations. This Discussion topic has multiple parts. Please read and complete each part. Original Response 1. You are going to create a problem involving one of the shapes you are learning about in this unit. Choose one of the following shapes and list all dimensions. For example, if you choose a circle, you would need to list the length of the radius. If you choose a parallelogram, you will need to list the height and the length of the two bases. If possible, include a drawing (directions on how to upload an image into your Discussion Board post are included in Doc Sharing). Rectangle Square Parallelogram Triangle Trapezoid Circle 2. Calculate the perimeter and area of the figure. Show all work and give the perimeter and area using the correct units. Example: Find the perimeter and area of a circle with a radius of 4 ft P = 2r = 2(3.14)(4) = 25.12 ft A = r² = (3.14)(4)² = (3.14)(16) = 50.25 ft² First Response to a Classmate Find a classmate’s post and create a word/application problem to fit the examples that your classmate posted. For example, if your classmate found the perimeter and area of a rectangle, you need to come up with a word/application problem about that rectangle. Humor and creativity are encouraged.. Second Response to a Classmate Find and comment on at least one other classmate’s post. This is a general response. Make sure your comments are substantive and advance the discussion.
