Age of Absolutism

The "Age of Absolutism" represents a specific form of government that developed in post-Reformation Europe as traditional sources of authority declined.  Define its goals, and discuss the way that France developed into this form of government. Most important here:  WHY is this an appealing form of government in this era, and what do you see as its strengths and potential weaknesses as Europe continues to stabilize in the 1700s?
