According to Stone and Harahan (2010), direct care workers (ex. personal care assistants, home health aides, and certified nursing assistants) provide eight out of every ten hours of paid care.(p.110). Long-term care facilities are reporting high turnover rates and staff vacancy rates for direct care workers. After completing this week’s reading, answer the following questions: What is causing the shortage of direct care workers? Provide at least three factors to support your answer. What would you recommend that long-term care organizations do to improve direct care worker’s job satisfaction? Provide at least three recommendations. In your opinion, would making these changes improve customer satisfaction? Why or why not?
