Advantage
·         Provides an analytical approach for comparing alternative actions
·         Sets of strategies are simultaneously or in a sequence of events
·         Integration of important external and internal factors in the decision process
Disadvantage
·         Requires companies to provide intuitive judgments and assumptions
·         The output is only good as the identified inputs
·         Strategies in a given set are evaluated based upon each other
2.How do you compare and contrast this matrix of choice to BCG?
QSPM should not dictate decisions but used to help determine a final decision  where BCG can make a decision
Both QSPM and BCG can provide an objective framework that can drive organizational strategic planning
QSPM and BCG can be used for all kinds of organizations - large, small, profit, and nonprofit in strategic planning
BCG focuses on generating feasible alternative strategies by aligning key external and internal factors and QSPM uses a set of pre-defined inputs
BCG focuses on cash flow, investment characteristics, and needs of an organization’s various divisions where QSPM has a holistic view.
3.Are they compatible?
Though they have different implications of how you use the matrices, they are compatible. QSPM consist of strategies derived from BSG matrix
4.Can they be used together?.
Yes, they can be used together by using BSG in Stage 2 and QSPM in stage 3 (matching and decision phase)
