ASHFORD CRJ 306 Week 2 DQ 2 Inchoate Offenses.
Inchoate Offenses. Provide your opinion of whether or not criminal liability and punishment for inchoate offenses are “fair” or not. How do the concepts of actus reus and mens rea fit with inchoate offenses? Should someone charged with an inchoate offense suffer the same punishment as the primary actors of the crime? Should people be criminally convicted for the crime of conspiracy where no underlying crime actually occurs?
ASHFORD CRJ 306 Week 2 DQ 3 Statutes of Limitations
Statutes of Limitations. Define the legal, procedural defense of statutes of limitations. Why are statutes of limitations a part of criminal law? Do you agree that there should be limits of when a crime can be prosecuted? Homicide does not have a statute of limitations. Do you agree or disagree with this notion?
ASHFORD CRJ 306 Week 3 DQ 1 Degrees of Homicide.

ASHFORD CRJ 306 Week 3 Sexual Predator Prosecution
Sexual Predator Prosecution. Prepare a three to five page paper (excluding the title and reference page) which details your home-state’s approach to sexual predators. Does your state have any which prohibit conduct that would be considered to be predatory? What types of crimes are codified into law, misdemeanor or felony? What are the punishments? Are there mandatory punishments or do judges have discretion in sentencing a defendant after conviction. According to the statutes that you research, is mere solicitation of improper activities enough for a prosecution, or must there be physical contact? Provide your opinion on the statute(s) and whether or not they are too soft, adequate, or too harsh on sexual predators. NOTE: if you cannot locate your state’s statutes, please research Florida’s.

ASHFORD CRJ 306 Week 4 DQ 3 Arson
Arson. Arson is often described as one of the most difficult crimes to prove; do you agree and why or why not? What “special” difficulties can occur when trying to prove an arson case?
ASHFORD CRJ 306 Week 5 DQ 1 Intimate Abuse
Inmate Abuse. Choose one of the three forms of “intimate abuse” presented in Chapter Fourteen. Explain the nature of the form of the abuse, detail the difficulty in prosecuting the abuses and offer suggestions/strategies how to reduce the number of incidents of the crime chosen. Use outside, scholarly sources and “think outside the box” to come up with solutions to the difficult issues confronted here.
ASHFORD CRJ 306 Week 5 DQ 2 Mandatory Sentencing

ASHFORD CRJ 306 Week 5 Final Paper
Focus of the Final Paper

Prepare a six to ten page paper (excluding the title and reference page), which details the entire criminal justice process for a felony criminal charge filed in a state court. Your paper will include all of the steps between arrest through pre-trial, trial, and appeals (both state and federal appeal possibilities). You must address contingencies for each stage of the proceedings and examine all possible outcomes. Your paper should be organized chronologically for how the process occurs, and provide analyses of how constitutional protections for the defendant work at each stage of the proceeding. Provide critical analyses, where appropriate, of whether the system effectively deals with criminal prosecutions, or whether changes or improvements are required. You may ask questions of your professor in either the classroom’s “Questions and Concerns” discussion board area or through email. Students can supplement their papers with interviews of people involved in the criminal justice field which will lend credibility to the research paper and the findings presented
